Drayage Fleets Around CN's Brampton Intermodal Terminal and DriveON Rules

The CN Brampton Intermodal Terminal, near Hwy 410 and Dixie Road, generates steady short-haul container moves. Heavy-duty diesel tractors that meet Ontario's Registered Gross Weight (RGW) and age or registration criteria are subject to the same DriveON emissions requirements as long-haul units.

Where the Terminal Sits

The CN Brampton Intermodal Terminal is part of Brampton's Hwy 410 / Dixie Road industrial belt. City of Brampton planning materials describe the Brampton Business Park as surrounding this CN intermodal facility. Containers move from rail to highway tractors for the final warehouse leg — work usually called drayage.

That work is typically short in distance but frequent in trips: queuing at the gate, idling, and repeated stop-start cycles rather than long, steady highway running. That duty cycle creates scheduling pressure; it does not create a separate emissions rule for drayage trucks.

When DriveON Emissions Testing Applies

Ontario does not require every diesel tractor on every trip to be tested. A heavy-duty diesel commercial motor vehicle with RGW over 4,500 kg needs an emissions inspection when:

Official rule (ontario.ca)

Heavy-duty diesel commercial motor vehicles with RGW over 4,500 kg require an emissions test at ownership transfer (if older than the current model year) or at plate renewal once the vehicle is at least 7 model years old.

Why Mobile Testing Matters for Drayage Dispatch

For fleets working Dixie Road / Hwy 410 rail cycles, the operational question is usually downtime: how to complete a required test without pulling a tractor out of rotation for a round trip to a fixed vehicle inspection centre. An authorized mobile DriveON facility can perform the inspection at the yard between dray runs.

Mobile testing is about convenience and schedule continuity. It does not guarantee a pass, and it does not change the opacity or OBD standards that apply to the vehicle.
